On May 19, 2025, my new book Die Exponentialgesellschaft: Vom Ende des Wachstums zur Stabilisierung der Welt was published in German with Suhrkamp. It discusses the problems and crises that advanced exponential trends bring about in a variety of social fields and analyzes the ensuing social conflicts between those who push for further growth and those who aim for stablized conditions at sustainable levels.

]]><![CDATA[Hans-L.-Zetterberg Prize 2023]]>Mon, 27 Nov 2023 15:36:23 GMThttps://www.emanueldeutschmann.net/home/hans-l-zetterberg-prize-2023I am honored to have received this year's Hans-L.-Zetterberg Prize in Sociology at Uppsala University. The prize is awarded yearly to a sociologist under 40,  “whose scholarly work, preferably by productively combining theory and practice, has shifted the forefront of research”. The award statement says:
"Emanuel Deutschmann is awarded the Prize for his contributions to the study of transnational migration, among others the development of a network-analytical approach to the study of the social dimension of regional integration in a global perspective, and for the work he has done to create an original open-access dataset on transnational mobility.

Dr. Deutschmann has published extensively in top academic journals in various social science disciplines, and has made a substantial contribution via his book Mapping the Transnational World – which was published by Princeton University Press in 2021. Undoubtedly influenced by his own transnational mobility, and the various visits to leading European and North American universities, Deutschmann’s scholarly contributions have not only left a mark in public debates, they have attracted the kind of media attention that spark a global conversation.

Thus, as a public intellectual, and because of the various contributions he has made to our understanding of how transnational migration is impacting our world, Deutschmann’s work aligns with the spirit of Hans L Zetterberg who also contributed to sociology in ways that enriched our imagination."

The award, which is sponsored by Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and innOsci - Forum offene Innovationskultur is endowed with 10,000 Euros, which we will use to move the project forward.
